Descripción

The retina is exposed to oxidative stress along life span, which produce damage in retinal structure obstructing its proper function. The retinal pigment epithelium cells layer plays a crucial key role in the retinal oxidative stress process.

Our laboratory has established an in vitro human retinal pigment epithelium cells culture (ARPE-19 cell line) models applying oxidative stress. The Glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme is applied for generation of H 2 O 2 which produces continues oxidative stress in cell culture. The H 2 O 2 is applied for acute oxidative stress. Depending on experimental requirements it can be selected an oxidative stress model. The developed oxidative stress based cell culture models can be used for testing anti-oxidant effects.
